Maurizio Martina was born in Pinerolo the 26th of April 1975. He received the degree in Electrical Engineering (110/110) in March 2000 and the Ph.D. degree in February 2004, both from Politecnico di Torino, Turin, Italy. Then, he joined the Electronics and Telecommunications Department at the Politecnico di Torino first as a post doctoral researcher (March 2004 - October 2011), then as an assistant professor (October 2011 - October 2014) and now he is associate professor. He is a member of the VLSI lab and of the Mines Group. Since 2001 he is married with Silvia and they have a son, Andrea, and a daughter, Anna.
His research interests include VLSI design and implementation of architectures for digital signal processing, video coding, communications, artificial intelligence, machine learning and event-based processing.
From December 2011 to December 2019, he had been an Associate Editor of the Journal of Circuits, Systems and Computers. He had been an Associate Editor of Hindawi VLSI Design and of Hindawi Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Since 2018 he is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I. Maurizio Martina has been the leading guest editor of the Special Issue on VLSI Circuits, Systems, and Architectures for Advanced Image and Video Compression Standards, Hindawi VLSI Design, Sep. 2012. He has been Tutorials, Special Sessions, and Awards co-Chair at NGCAS 2017 and one of the Guest Editors of a special section on papers related to low-power consuption from NGCAS 2017, published in the ASP Journal of Low Power Electronics (JOLPE). He has been one of the Guest Editors of a selection of the best papers from NGCAS 2017, published in Integration, the VLSI Journal. Moreover, he has been Demonstration Co-Chair at BioCAS 2017 and one the Guest Editors of the IEEE BioCAS 2017 special issue published in IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Circuits and Systems. He has been General Chair of the INTESA workshop, which was co-located with the Embedded Systems Week, Sep. 30 - Oct. 5, 2018, Torino, Italy and Oct. 13 - 18, 2019, New York, USA. He has been Guest Editor of the Special Issue "Selelcted papers from INTESA Workshop 2018". He has been part of the program committee of APPLEPIES (Applications in Electronics Pervading Industry, Environment and Society) 2018 and 2019. He is part of the organizing committee of the IEEE International Conference on Electronics Circuits and Systems (ICECS) 2019, a Review Committee Member for IEEE AICAS 2020 and part of the Technical Program Committee of PRIME 2020 and of the Euromicro Conference on Digital System Design (DSD) 2020. Maurizio Martina is one of the Guest Editors of the Special Issue on Intelligent Embedded Systems Architectures and Applications, Elsevier Microprocessors and Microsystems: Embedded Hardware Design.
On April 2017 he got the National Scientific Qualification to the role of Full Professor. He is the Reference Programme Faculty for the Bachelor and the Master in Electronic Engineering of Politecnico di Torino and the representative of Polito research unit at the Societa' Italiana di Elettronica (SIE). Moreover, he is vice-coordinator of the committee for Polito IT strategies.
Maurizio Martina is key staff person for the WP4 (Virtual Campus) in the UNITE! project.
